Press Release - Copper Decommissioning

CURA is the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority for the Isle of Man and we are the independent regulator for the Island’s telecoms sector.
Since the introduction of the existing network over a century ago telecoms services, including voice calls and broadband, have been traditionally delivered to consumers over copper wires, however this is set to change. To ensure that your needs and protection are kept at the heart of the copper switch-off process, work has been on-going behind the scenes involving ourselves, the Department for Enterprise, the Office of Fair Trading and industry-wide service providers (BlueWave, Domicilum, Manx Telecom, Opti-Fi, Starlink, Sure and Wi-Manx). Many homes will already have various other options, such as fibre, wireless broadband, or satellite, but the process and alternative services may differ from person-to-person.
Manx Telecom’s copper network will be replaced with a fibre optic network and the process of rolling out fibre is nearing completion. This means that the old copper network is being withdrawn from service; consumers who still have a copper-based service will have to switch to another service to stay connected. Carnane ( Douglas) : Faulty Transmitter - BBC Radio 4/ Classic FM - FIXED

ConsumerThe Authority has today been made aware that the Carnane (Douglas ) transmitter has a fault.
The Authority has contacted the BBC who have advised that they are aware that the transmitter has a fault and that this is being investigated.
The Authority will post further updates when available.
Further Update: - The Authority has been notified that the fault has been fixed as 15.46pm (05/02/2025)

ConsumerOn the 31st January 2025 the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority published its Broadcasting Licence Award Process Consultation (04/25) and Broadcasting Licence Fee Review Consultation (05/25)
These Consultations follow on from the Response to Consultation on Broadcasting Licences (22/24) published 23rd October 2024.
The deadline for submitting a response to the Consultations is 14th March 2025.

02/25: Response To Consultation On Gas (Economic Regulation) Bill

ConsumerOn the 17th May 2024 the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority (the Authority) published its Gas (Economic Regulation) Bill Consultation (12/24).
The Consultation, which closed on 21st July 2024, outlined the draft principles of the Gas (Economic Regulation) Bill along with the Authority’s preliminary views on the matter.

ConsumerOn the 17th January 2025 the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority (the Authority) has published its Public Service Broadcaster Licence Consultation (01/25).
The Consultation document specifically addresses the Public Service Broadcasting Licence and associated Station Format held by Manx Radio.
The deadline for submitting a response to the Consultation is 28th February 2025.
