The Communications Act 2021 received Royal Assent on 20th April 2021. The Act replaced the Telecommunications Act 1984, and primarily updates terminology, introduces a fines and penalties regime, and also introduces stand-alone competition powers for the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority.
With the introduction of the Act, the Authority is required to issue new Licences, revised to reflect the changes in legislation, to its existing Licence holders.
